1. Who We Are

Germanly is a German language learning platform at mygermanly.com. It is operated as an independent product by Pexilim, a micro-enterprise (MSME) based in India.

2. What We Collect

When you create an account

• Email address
• Your name and profile picture from your Google account — you sign in with Google, so we never see or store a password
• Account creation date

When you use the app

• Your learning progress (units completed, XP, streak, flashcard history)
• Your writing submissions (text you write for AI feedback)
• Your chat sessions with the AI conversation partner
• Transcripts of your speaking practice — the text only, never the audio (see section 5)
• Which features you use and when (basic usage logs)

When you pay

Payment is handled entirely by Stripe. We do not store your card number, CVV, or any payment details. We only receive confirmation that payment succeeded and the date it occurred.

• Browser type and device type (for bug fixing)
• Approximate country (not precise location)
• Pages visited within the app

3. What We Do NOT Collect

• Precise location or GPS data
• Phone number
• Any data from your device outside the app
• Data about you from third-party sources

4. Why We Collect It

We do not sell your data. We do not use your data for advertising.

5. Your Voice and Speaking Practice

Speaking practice uses your microphone, only while a session is open and only after you have allowed it in your browser.

• Your voice is not stored. Each answer is sent to OpenRouter, which passes it to an OpenAI audio model to turn it into text. The recording exists only for the few seconds that takes; we never save it to our servers or database.
• Live captions work the same way: short pieces of your answer are turned into text while you speak, and are not kept either.
• We keep the text — what you said, the AI partner's replies, and the corrections — in your account, so you can see your mistakes and look back at a conversation. Deleting your account deletes them.
• The conversation partner's microphone button (in the chat, not speaking practice) uses your browser's own speech recognition. In Chrome and Edge, your browser sends that audio to Google or Microsoft to recognise it, under their terms; we receive only the text.

Your voice is never used to identify you, and never for advertising.

7. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on Supabase with row-level security — only your account can read your own data. Sign-in is handled by Google, so there is no password to store or leak. Payment data is never stored on our servers.

8. Your Rights (GDPR)

If you are in the EU or EEA, you have the right to:

• Access — request a copy of all data we hold about you
• Correction — ask us to fix incorrect data
• Deletion — ask us to delete your account and all associated data
• Export — receive your data in a portable format
• Withdraw consent — stop us from processing your data

9. Data Retention

We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete your account, personal data is deleted within 30 days. Anonymised usage statistics may be retained for product improvement.

10. Cookies

Essential cookies only — required to keep you logged in. No advertising, tracking, or third-party analytics cookies.

11. Children

Not intended for users under 16. Email us if you believe a child has an account.

12. Changes

We notify you by email if we make significant changes.
